Synopsis

From the greatest Western writers of the twenty-first century comes this thrilling epic of the American West. New York Times bestselling authors William W. Johnstone and J. A. Johnstone capture the human side of the frontier experience in all its glory, grit, and grandeur—through the eyes of one remarkable teenage boy.Leaving their Pennsylvania home to forge a new life in the untamed Oregon Territory of 1845, the Colter family is ambushed by a kill-crazy gang of cutthroats on the Oregon Trail. Fifteen-year-old Tim Colter manages to escape and hide—only to return and find his parents butchered, his sisters Nancy and Margaret missing, and one last killer waiting for his return.Forced to fight for his life, the young Colter embarks on a perilous journey across a lawless frontier, hoping to save his sisters and salvage the dream they lived for. But first, Tim has to figure out how to survive. Luckily, he finds a new friend in Jed Reno, a grizzled one-eyed trapper who has lived in the Rocky Mountains since the 1820s—and who was attacked by the same gang that ambushed Tim’s family.Together, the mountain man and the greenhorn set out after the marauders, blazing a trail of vengeance that leads them to one of the deadliest men in the territory. With danger at every turn, and death just a heartbeat away, Colter has no choice but to grow up fast—one bullet at a time.

About William W. Johnstone

William Wallace Johnstone (1938–2004), born in southern Missouri, was a prolific American author, mostly of Western, horror, and survivalist novels. He began writing in 1970 but had his first novel, The Devil’s Kiss, published in 1979. After his death, it was announced that a carefully selected author had been chosen to carry on his legacy. J. A. Johnstone is continuing William W. Johnstone’s series.

About J. A. Johnstone

J. A. Johnstone learned to write from the master himself, Uncle William W. Johnstone, who began tutoring J. A. at an early age. After-school hours were often spent retyping manuscripts or researching his massive American western history library as well as the more modern wars and conflicts. J. A. worked hard and learned, later going on to become the coauthor of William W. Johnstone's many bestselling westerns and thrillers. J. A. Johnstone lives on a ranch in Tennessee.

After finishing 'Colter's Journey', one thing will haunt this book, for me and that's Terry C. Johnston's legendary character, 'Titus Bass'. Although it's more violent than the Titus books, if you have read his books the comparison is their, but like with music only Great White has ever taken a cove......more

Colter's Journey by William Johnstone was the first book I have read from him. I really wanted to read this book because when I read the back of it, it sounded like it was a really good story. I really loved this book because there was so much detail about the places Tim Colter had been. I also love......more

My very first western was not bad at all. A bit predictable but I am very happy with it. I have definitely not ruled out more western in the future.......more

Was there a coffee pot or not, John Wayne? What to say about this one? It's kind of the print equivalent of a B movie western. It's entertaining, but there's nothing new in it. You've seen it all before (especially if you've read Terry C. Johnston's Carry the Wind), and you can guess what'll happen b......more
