Emily Trigger and the Prodigal Suns are following Heka's calling card. The trail of injured and dead bodies is a dark trail leading them to the ancient god of magic.

Not before a whole lot of searching for Emily and her new unit. While the Prodigal Suns wait for new intel on Heka's whereabouts, Emily finds herself faced with a few new threats of her own, and her newly altered magic suddenly doesn't seem so accidental anymore. There's a rhyme and a reason to her electrifying new abilities—somewhere—and Emily needs to figure out what that is if she wants to stop having so many close calls.
