Synopsis

The dramatic secret history of the undeclared, ongoing war between the US and IranFor the past three decades, the United States and Iran have been engaged in an unacknowledged secret war. This conflict has frustrated five American presidents, divided administrations, and repeatedly threatened to bring the two nations to the brink of open warfare. Drawing upon unparalleled access to senior officials and key documents of several US administrations, David Crist, a senior historian in the federal government, breaks new ground on virtually every page of The Twilight War. From the Iranian Revolution to secret negotiations between Iran and the United States after 9/11 to Iran’s nuclear program and sanctions against it, Crist brings vital new depth to our understanding of “the Iran problem”—and what the future of this tense relationship may bring.

The author, a senior historian for the government, tackles a difficult, convoluted, complex and politically charged topic – the US/Iranian “relationship” over the last thirty plus years – a conflict which seemingly has been on the brink of disaster, i.e. war, for most of that time. Covering five pre......more

With the targeted killing of Qods Force commander Qaseem Soleimani in the weeks proceeding the writing of this review, Iran has once more resurfaced in the news cycle. The hawks root for more bloodshed and war, while the doves insist this action makes the United States the bad guys. Being a bit of a......more

It is a maticuously researched book that explores most diplomatic and military aspects of the American-Iranian relationship since the decline of the Shah and his overthrow in 1979. C......more
