Synopsis

“Why do women dream of having the life of Angelina Jolie? Because the actress is the embodiment of having it all.”—Harper’s BazaarDespite all the headlines, what do we know about the real Angelina Jolie? Award-winning biographer Andrew Morton, whose books forever changed the world’s perception of Princess Diana and Tom Cruise, finally brings us the inside story of the smiling, glamorous woman whom Forbes named the most powerful celebrity in the world. The daughter of actor Jon Voight, Angelina appeared in her first movie at the age of seven, then worked as a model and appeared in music videos as a teenager. She won an Oscar for Girl, Interrupted, shared a shocking kiss with her brother at the awards ceremony, and wore a vial of her second husband Billy Bob Thornton’s blood around her neck. Of late, however, the wild child with a heart and mind of her own, and the tattoos to show for it, has transformed herself into a UN Goodwill Ambassador and world-renowned humanitarian, with the equally glamorous Brad Pitt by her side.Once again, Andrew Morton digs deep to find the true story. With astonishing never-before-seen photos and never-before-heard revelations, he paints a mesmerizing portrait of the secret history and private life of a gorgeous, exotic, and mysterious icon.

5 stars for Angie, 0 for the author. Yes, Angelina is an amazing woman, and this book does draw the picture of why she is amazing, in spite of busily trying to paint another picture.. This author takes the unforgivable low road of mistaking his subject for his patient (and I don't see no Dr. in front......more

So-so as far as the celeb tell-all genre goes. It was very sloooow moving in the beginning, too much background about her grandparents. Seriously...like anyone who picks up an unauthorized celeb bio wants to know about the origin of her grandparents??!! **SPOILERS** Points of interest (aka: Important t......more

This is a very interesting book. In true Morton fashion, your held to facts. It does not paint Ms. Jolie in a very good light. From her disturbing childhood to her currant life. You'd think the "odd" part of the family would be the Voight side, Hollywood and all, when actually it was her mother's fa......more

I'm giving this 2 stars because even though it was uninteresting and there were no big revelations, Andrew Morton is a good writer and the information is presented well. Otherwise I would probably go with one star. First off I'll say I didn't like Angelina Jolie prior to reading this and I probably......more

Well, this is yet another example of how dysfunctional parents screw up someone's life. I really worry about all those kids she is taking in and leaving to raise by others. They will end up being screwed up, too. Wow, that was harsh but honest.......more

Quotes

“Unauthorized but seemingly well researched, it covers all the bases of her life to date…Morton’s narrative is peppered with quotes from friends and other unnamed sources as well as ‘experts’ who delve into Jolie’s psychological makeup. Actor/Audie Award winner Bronson Pinchot’s narration is smooth, low-key, and nicely paced. This will be a popular choice for biography collections.” Library Journal
