Synopsis

In the sleepy village of Downpass, 23 year old Gianna decides to throw a Christmas party. Beatrice Risdon, James’s forceful sister and steely doyenne of Downpass life, stands aghast as friends from London and Paris descend en masse for the occasion. Among them are: Pierre, a sensitive virtuoso violinist much given to practicing through the small hours at Hargreaves House; Daphne Maxwellton, a dazzling socialite who can always be relied upon to interfere in the affairs of others; and the journalist Alexander Ranch, Gianna’s fiancé and a man who combines his investigative researches with a passion for Rugby - demands which sometimes lead him to forget his romantic responsibilities.

3 1/2 stars While I enjoyed reading this book, it wasn't really the Christmas themed story I was anticipating. The fact that the story began a few days before Christmas was meaningless. There was a little bit of chatter about mince pies, and that was it. I felt that the book description here on GR was......more

A gentle romance with some surprising twists, the book is what I have come to expect from Ms. Cadell in that she shows a wonderful understanding of people and what drives them to do what they do. This one was a bit unexpected since it deals with a previous generation's infidelities and the results o......more
