Synopsis

President Jesse Wood has a mission for Christian Gillette: post-Communist Cuba. There are secret negotiations going on with senior capitalists in Cuba concerning the US and the President wants Gillette to handle it, but is clear that if the discussions ever came to light, the trail cannot lead back to the Oval Office. Seeing no option but to accept the dangerous mission, Gillette heads to Florida with best friend and bodyguard, Quentin Stiles, leaving his capable and alluring protege Allison Wallace in charge of Everest. Though they are soon a thousand miles apart, it turns out they are both in grave danger—and now they aren't around to help each other survive.

This is probably my least favorite of Frey's books. It wasn't bad, but it had too many characters and too many plots, too many people spying on others, etc.. to keep up with. I like reading novels by Stephen Frey for his ability to credibly portray goings-on in the business world. This novel takes him out of his realm, in my opinion. Taking a private equity kingpin and using him to execute a coup de tat in Cuba is a difficult plot line - and it does not really work. Lots......more

In the Christian Gillette series, this was my least favorite. Without giving away the ending, it seemed thrown together, as if the author was realizing there was a page limit and he had to hastily end the story. Frey is usually fantastic at weaving multiple plot lines and merging them into one, but......more

I have to say this is probably the least favorite of all in the series. I do enjoy the characters, but the author just did way too much in this one as well as the last book. At times the book could be very serious but there’s too many moments are so unbelievable. He contradicts himself too many time......more
