Glendon Swarthout wrote sixteen novels, many of which were bestsellers and were made into films, among them Seventh Cavalry, They Came to Cordura, Where the Boys Are, Bless the Beasts & Children, and A Christmas to Remember. This book contained some of the best writing I've ever read, and the first eighty pages were just perfect. But the tension fell away slightly in the second half, and the ending, while incredibly clever, was just a bit too brutal for my tastes.
