Bernard Cornwell is an internationally acclaimed historical fiction author celebrated for bringing the past to life with gripping battles, vivid landscapes, and unforgettable heroes. Best known for The Last Kingdom series-which inspired the hit Netflix adaptation-Cornwell has earned a global readership through his unmatched ability to blend meticulous research with page-turning storytelling.
Across more than sixty novels, including the beloved Sharpe series, The Warlord Chronicles, and numerous standalone works, Cornwell transports readers to pivotal eras of history, from medieval Britain to the Napoleonic Wars. His books are praised for their authenticity, rich character detail, and immersive depictions of strategy, honor, and survival on the battlefield.
Born in London and later making his home in the United States, Cornwell's lifelong passion for history and storytelling drives his work, earning him recognition as one of the most influential historical novelists of our time. Whether following an English archer, a Saxon warrior, or a reluctant soldier thrust into war, audiences trust Bernard Cornwell to deliver sweeping adventures that resonate long after the final chapter.
..you will be deeply disappointed in this one. Jamie Glover can't hold a candle to Tom Sellwood, the reader of The Last Kingdom, and this abridged version of The Pale Horseman has been edited with a meat cleaver to the point that all of the interesting characters have been squeezed out of the story and you're left with the bare narrative of a mini-novel. I will not continue with HarperAudio's very poor rendering of these great novels, but will actually have to sit down to read them. I recommend that you listen to Tom Sellwood's unabridged reading of The Last Kingdom and STOP THERE!

The Pale Horseman is the excellent continuation of Uhtred of Bebbanburg's story. Set between 876 - 878 AD, Uhtred is now in his early 20's, having proven himself as a man and a warrior. He's fought in a shield wall, killed Ubba in one on one combat, and has sworn an oath to the Saxon king Alfred. Uh......more
