Synopsis

Longlisted for the McIlvanney Scottish Crime Book of the Year A mother calls for her child repeatedly in the soft summer air, her voice rising with panic. She leans over the glass balustrade, her eyes searching the dark waters of the loch. Her only child is gone.  The disappearance of a three-year-old girl from her isolated home in the Scottish Highlands shook the nation. Three years later, the world may have forgotten the blond-haired girl with the big blue eyes, but her grief-stricken parents hire Private Investigator Teàrlach Paterson – an expert in finding missing children – to bring their precious Lily home. Working round the clock, Teàrlach quickly uncovers secrets beneath the surface of the close-knit local community. The Masterton's nanny, fired after Lily's disappearance, is missing, and local outcast Annie could hold the key to solving the case. And then a body is found at local landmark, Hell’s Glen. As Teàrlach pieces together the secrets at the heart of the Masterton family, tiny bones are found in the loch close to the Masterton’s home. Could they be Lily’s? Or will Teàrlach unravel a truth even more shocking? A twisty, atmospheric, and utterly compelling page-turner set within the breath-taking Highland landscape from a CWA New Blood Dagger Longlist author and McIlvanney Best Scottish Crime Novel Finalist. Fans of LJ Ross, Ann Cleeves, and Val McDermid will be hooked by The Girl in the Loch. About Andrew James Greig

"Andrew James Greig writes crime and speculative fiction inspired by the wild and rugged Scottish landscape where he lives. Andrew spends his time writing, exploring islands and playing music. His first book was selected for the CWA New Blood Dagger award and was a finalist for the McIlvanney Prize for Scottish Crime Fiction in 2020. Born in London, he moved to Bristol where he studied engineering, providing the sound for Glastonbury and WOMAD festivals and touring the world with bands. 4.75 ⭐ rounded up. Greig is the master of procedural small-town thrillers. I am convinced he can do no wrong. DI Corstorphine returns in yet another gripping procedural thriller. THE DEVIL'S CUT is #2 in the DI Corstorphine series by Andrew James Greig. Like the first book, it is filled with sensory images that help immerse the reader in the story. Again, the two main characters are DI James Corstorphine and DC Frankie McKenzie, with PC Philip Lamb offering a bit of comedy......more

5 stars isn't enough for this gem. I absolutely loved Whirligig and this next instalment of life in the Highlands with DI Corstophine definitely doesn't disappoint. If you've not read Whirligig I encourage you to do so but you don't need to read it before The Devil's Cut. Mr Greig is an absolute mas......more

Slightly underwhelming second book in the Detective Corstophine series. It missed the atmosphere of the first and indeed the story. It starts out quite intriguing with a lot going on but soon settles into a slightly ponderous and unbelievable story. The book certainly read a lot longer for me than t......more
