Synopsis

Richard Barham Middleton (1882-1911) was an English poet and author who is remembered mostly for his short ghost stories, of which 'The Ghost Ship' is the most famous. It is one of the few stories in literature which combines a ghostly theme with lightening humour.

Middleton suffered from severe depression for much of his life (then known as melancholia) and committed suicide by poisoning himself with chloroform at the age of 29.

Richard Middleton is an independent scholar and was formerly associate professor of American history at Queen's University Belfast. He is the author of The Bells of Victory, Colonial America, Pontiac's War, and The War of American Independence.

This is a unique and really fun ghost story. There are no scars here but the premise is interesting. A small town is overrun with ghosts to the point where they are the seen as any of the other inhabitants of the town. Nothing dreadful, nor dreadfully wrong about this little bagatelle, and it has enough silly dry observation to make it enjoyable, but like it’s eponym, it doesn’t really go anywhere with much purpose.......more
