Set in the shadowed streets of post-Revolutionary Paris, the story follows a lonely German student whose fascination with death, philosophy, and the macabre slowly unravels his grasp on reality. When the student encounters a mysterious young woman amid the city’s executions and unrest, desire and dread intertwine. What appears at first to be a strange romance descends into a nightmarish spiral of obsession, graveyards, and forbidden longing. As reason erodes, the boundary between life and death collapses, revealing a horror born not of superstition alone, but of the human mind’s darkest fixations.Narrated by Amazon-bestselling horror author Jonathan Dunne, this performance brings out the story’s somber atmosphere, mounting unease, and tragic inevitability. Irving’s restrained prose and eerie imagery combine to create a haunting meditation on isolation, obsession, and the seductive pull of the morbid.Part of Timeless Terrors, a series dedicated to reviving the most influential works of classic horror, The Adventure of a German Student endures as a quiet yet devastating reminder that the most terrifying monsters are those we create within ourselves.

About Washington Irving

Washington Irving (1783–1859) was an American author, short story writer, essayist, poet, travel book writer, biographer, and columnist. He is best known for writing the stories "Rip Van Winkle" and "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow." Early on, he was a contributor to the Morning Chronicle, published Salmagundi, and served as editor of Analetic magazine in Philadelphia and New York. In 1809, he published the comical A History of New York under the name "Dietrich Knickerbocker." Eleven years later, he published a collection of stories entitled The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent., which allowed him to become a full-time writer. Other books written by Irving are Bracebridge Hall, Chronicles of the Conquest of Granada, A Tour of the Prairies, and The Life of George Washington, a five-volume title.
