Synopsis

Driven by the single-minded purpose of tracking the missing Jane and her German abductor, Tarzan braves the forbidding wastes of the great barrier swamps to enter the primeval land of Pal-ul-don—an unforgiving world of tailed humanoids pitted in unrelenting war, where the fierce reptilian gryf stalks its prey.
As Jane battles to free herself from captivity in A-lur, the City of Light, and flees deeper into the deadly environs of the strange land, she must learn to hone her own jungle skills and emerge as a heroine in her own right...or succumb to the merciless perils of savage Pal-ul-don. Meanwhile, a fierce stranger follows Tarzan into the interior, bearing a rifle and bandoliers, bent on a mysterious quest.

This might be the best of the Tarzan novels? It begins as an immediate continuation of Tarzan the Untamed -- Tarzan, having discovered that Jane was not, in fact, killed by the German troops who razed the Greystoke estate at the beginning of the previous book, is tracking the last surviving German of......more

This was one of the more confusing Tarzan books to me. You end up with Tarzan caught between two ancient civilizations, which seems to happen a lot to him. There sure were a lot of lost civilizations in Africa around 100 years ago. Anyway, we have a prehistoric race complete with tails. Also, we hav......more

A fairly typical day in the life of Tarzan seems to go like this: (1) Scale a cliff with some new friends in search of a girl who recently fled an attacker; (2) fight and kill a lion that had menaced that girl. (3) fight single-handedly against 20 enemy warriors, taking out several before finally be......more
