As autumn mists gather over the water and the vast forest closes in around them, an atmosphere of unease begins to take hold. When a grim discovery is made along the shoreline, the men find themselves drawn into a growing terror that seems to emerge from both the wilderness and the darkness hidden within human nature. With its eerie northern setting, oppressive loneliness, and slow-building sense of dread, Skeleton Lake remains one of Blackwood’s most haunting tales of supernatural horror and psychological fear.

About Algernon Blackwood

Algernon Blackwood (1869–1951) led a
rich and varied life. Storyteller, mystic, adventurer, and radio and television
personality, he is best remembered for his two superlative horror stories, “The
Willows” and “The Wendigo.” But in his lifetime he wrote over 150 stories, at
least a dozen novels, two plays, and quite a few children’s books as well. By
the time of his death, he had become one of the greatest writers of
supernatural fiction in the twentieth century.
