Synopsis

Showing Up is a revolutionary step-by-step guide—by and for men—to ending toxic masculinity and leveraging men to enact heart-based leadership, increase diversity, bolster the bottom line, and create a culture so everyone in the workplace wins.

The Times Up, Me Too, and Black Lives Matter movements have been wake-up calls to all of us, but perhaps mostly for men. And organizations worldwide are finally realizing the critical importance of diversity, equity, and inclusivity (DEI) for underrepresented people. But for a new and healthier infrastructure, for permanent and transformational shifts, we need a plan that includes men.

Enter Ray Arata, founder of the Better Man Conference and cofounder of Better Man Leadership, and a world-recognized industry expert on engaging men in workplace DEI, with his revolutionary step-by-step guide for men and the organizations they work in. Mainstream gender training and its focus on the avoidance of toxic masculinity is not enough. In this book, listeners learn the DIY method of heart-based leadership Ray has used with such companies as Verizon, Bloomberg, Moody's, Intel, Toyota, Hearst, and more—a male-modeled, real-solutions approach by and for men to increase diversity, bolster the bottom line, and create a culture so everyone in the workplace wins.

About Ray Arata

Ray Arata is the founder of aratacode.com, where his evolutionary system for Emotional Maturity and Accountability for men empowers them with practical guidance and tools to prevent and resolve conflict in their families, workplaces and communities. Ray does this with coaching programs, workshops, and speaking that are designed to support men in their transformation to new, happier lives. He is also an executive leadership coach, inclusionary culture consultant, and speaker. Ray brings his fifteen years of experience with men to the corporate world with his Engaging Men Curriculum to support full gender partnership towards tangible business outcomes. He is currently a coleader candidate with the Mankind Project. He obtained his undergraduate degree at UCLA and his Juris Doctorate at San Francisco Law School. His practice is located in Northern California.

His mission in life is to create safe relationships, families, and communities by empowering men to step fully into their roles as husbands, fathers, leaders, and friends. Wake Up, Man Up, Step Up is his first book that lays out a road map to emotional literacy.

Ray's own successful wake up call journey was prompted by divorce in 1999. Personal outcomes that followed were a healthy coparenting relationship with his former wife of their three teenagers, as well as his fourteen year relationship with his new wife, and a meaningful career, all of which give him the life experience (and results) that you can count on and draw from. Ray is also passionate about cycling and cooking!

Reviews

I think the thing I cherish the most about Ray Arata’s new book is how it doesn’t pander. Even some of the most articulate individuals on the subject of male allyship and male proponents of third-wave feminism can come across as desperate, cheap, and full of rhetoric. Rhetoric that is less motivated......more
