Finds often are rare, and this book belongs to that group. I've rarely, if ever, derived so much from so obscure a book. The last time was the Pizza Lovers' Mysteries. That's what I like about cozy mysteries. They contain more finds than any other genre. There's not as many obscure but delightful b......more

Sarah is take no prisoners kind of gal and this really irks the lawyer who is assigned to following/helping her with the case. And her brothers prove helpful as does her judge father. She is not afraid of getting her hands dirty, but her mind is her best asset. There is a lot to like about Sarah. Th......more

I thought this was a delightful first book by this author. I loved Sarah Woolson and found her to be quite refreshing for that time frame. She reminded me of Sarah Brandt, the character in the Victoria Thompson series. I would love to read where Sarah is off to next or what cases she will work on in......more

However, the main character insistence that's she just as good as a man and just as logical--while basically stomping her feet saying so and so is innocent--got really annoying. Hopefully now that the author has established the chara......more

Quotes

“Anna Fields has a superb gift for creating character voices, both male and female. Her male voices are particularly outstanding; each is not only uniquely identifiable, but foreign accents (Scots and Chinese) are perfectly portrayed. Emotions are skillfully interpreted, whether highly charged or sympathetic…[A] beautifully performed book. Winner of the AudioFile Earphones Award.” AudioFile

“Lively details of a lively time and place spice up a typically feisty heroine’s struggles against sexism.” Kirkus Reviews

“The serenely self-assured Sarah…keeps the reader on her side and turning pages till the end.” Booklist
