About Christopher D. Kolenda

Christopher D. Kolenda is a retired U.S. Army colonel who served three tours of duty in Afghanistan. He has shaped every critical strategic review for Afghanistan and Pakistan since 2009, led the team that drafted the McChrystal assessment and ISAF strategy, penned the 2009 ISAF counterinsurgency guidance, and influenced myriad other strategic and tactical initiatives that have set conditions for success in Afghanistan. He is also the author of The Counterinsurgency Challenge: A Parable of Leadership and Decision Making in Modern Conflict.

It was a collection of essays from various authors in the Armed Services. The chapters on history really appealed to me, however the ones about logistics of life an a base were not so compelling. All in all, it's a very thorough overview of the life of a soldier.......more
