Another well-crafted mystery from Peters. If the villain is the story, this story is simply terrific. The villain is in the mold of a Josephine Tey villain: narcissistic and completely amoral. This is an odd book, very melodramatic and gothic with a romance at the heart of it that really doesn’t hold up. The set up is intriguing as are the characters but I don’t believe the ending so it left me unsatisfied. Interesting to read Peters’ writing in this way but not one of her best.......more
