Synopsis

While there is suffering, evil, sickness, and death in this world, the book of Joel reminds us that we have an everlasting hope through it all. Joel warns the people of Judah as a horrifying locust plague has come upon them. He urges the people to repent and return to God, predicting that this is just the beginning of their judgment. Thankfully, Joel’s prophecies do not end there. He continues to teach the people about the promise of hope that lies ahead in the kingdom of the Messiah. Listen as this prophet describes the day of salvation which we are privileged to live in now.

About David Cochran Heath

David Cochran Heath has worked in radio and theater for thirty-five years. He has voiced characters for computer games and public television, hosted an instructional video series for automotive repair, and was the narrator for a long-running radio program for kids. Additionally, he was the on-camera host for a documentary on the most violent courtroom shootout in US history. David lived in a village in the Philippines for four years as a teenager, and has lived with his wife in Michigan, Washington, and California. He was with Lamb's Players Theatre in Coronado, California, for thirty-one years, working full-time as a senior member of the acting ensemble and serving as the company's director of facilities. He left Lamb's Players in 2011 to concentrate on audiobooks, and has been the narrator of over 140 books, including three versions of the Bible as sole reader: ESV, KJV, and NIrV. David gets his love of stories from his father, who was a preacher for twenty-five years, a missionary for another eighteen years, and a lifelong lover of the most important story of all: God's plan of redemption in all sixty-six books of the Bible.

Joel is another prophet. The main focus of this book is on a plague of locusts. My overall conclusion is that I'm not too keen on locusts now. In January 2015 I set myself the challenge to read the complete Bible within a year. I discovered that was an unrealistic challenge, and decided to pick up my......more

I have always been a Christian. I was brought up in a Christian home, I had Sunday school every Sunday and Wednesday night church every, well, Wednesday. I went to church camps, I was baptized, and I went to Christian school and even had those corny cartoon illustrations of Bible Stores on tape. So w......more

Joel is another short (4 chapters) but powerful prophetic book. Set before either Israel or Judah had been carried away into captivity, the book begins with a vivid description of a locust plague and its effects on Israel and the land. Joel seques this into a metaphor of a forthcoming invasion of Is......more
