Synopsis

Who are you, Malone? Just a little while ago you were a cop. That was before the two punks and their girl hit town. That was before they boosted a payroll and shot down a man and took your nine-year-old daughter as insurance to cover their getaway. Now you’re just a man. Scared. Not for yourself—that would be easy. But for your child, the only thing in the world you love enough to make you play ball with the kind of scum you’ve hated all your life.

About Ellery Queen

Ellery Queen is a pseudonym used by two American cousins from Brooklyn—Daniel Nathan, alias Frederic Dannay (1905–1982), and Manford (Emanuel) Lepofsky, alias Manfred Bennington Lee (1905–1971)—to write detective fiction. In a successful series of novels that covered forty-two years, Ellery Queen served as both the authors’ name and that of the detective-hero. The cousins also cofounded and directed Ellery Queen’s Mystery Magazine, one of the most influential English crime-fiction magazines of the twentieth century. They were given the Grand Master Award for achievements in the field of the mystery story by the Mystery Writers of America in 1961.

About Robert Fass

Robert Fass is a veteran actor and twice winner of the prestigious Audie Award for the year’s best narration. He has earned many Earphones Awards and AudioFile magazine “Best of the Year” accolades.

My first foray into Ellery Queen the author (as someone who read the magazine bearing their name for several years), and while it wasn't what I expected (a mystery involving the sleuth Ellery), it was still a great book. A crime thriller more than a mystery, Cop Out is packed with suspense and danger......more

As a teenager I liked Ellery Queen novels but it seems that time (and probably also age) has made their tricks and this wasn't particularly good. This was more like an episode of an older crime TV-series episode - which I also liked when I was in my teens. The story is a very straightforward descript......more

Probably would have been a 5/5 if it had actually included Ellery Queen. I have no clue why this book is included in the list of Ellery Queen Detective Novels (that is, books featuring Ellery Queen, not ones written by hims), since neither Ellery nor any other known Ellery Queen side character appea......more
