Aligned with the resurgence of feminism in pop culture, Broad Strokes offers an entertaining corrective to that omission. Art historian Bridget Quinn delves into the lives and careers of fifteen brilliant female artists in this smart, feisty, educational, and enjoyable book.Replete with beautiful reproductions of the artists’ works and contemporary portraits of each artist by renowned illustrator Lisa Congdon, this is art history from 1600 to the present day for the modern art lover, reader, and feminist.

Completely engrossing, deeply moving and inspiring. I learned so much and yet it never felt didactic. It's the kind of book where you want to run out and grab your friend and ask, "Did you know....?!?! Can you believe that....?!?" It's the kind of book that makes you want to go to a museum, a galler......more
