Synopsis

New Orleans nightclub owner Mia LeMay's protected Creole world shatters when she witnesses a murder and she's forced to put her life in the hands of a man she's never met. A man whose golden eyes hide as many dark, dangerous secrets as the killer who wants her dead.

Guilt twists like a knife in Agent Rick Ryder's gut. He has a personal stake in keeping the black-haired beauty safe, and once his superiors figure out the stunt he pulled to make sure he's the one protecting her, his life will be worth about as much as hers if he fails.

Deep in the Louisiana mangroves, the steamy bayou has nothing on the heat of desire surrounding them. But danger lurks in the shadows. Things that slither. Things that bite. And an evil determined to make sure Mia doesn't live to see the light of another dawn . . .

Contains mature themes.

About Jenna Ryan

Jenna Ryan was born in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, but spent her childhood in several different areas of the country. She began creating stories before she could read. Growing up, romance alone had a strong appeal, but as it turned out, romantic suspense was the perfect fit. After all, what could be better than adding the darker elements of a mystery to a romantic relationship? And, oh, the fun of those secondary characters. Over the years, she has worked in several different industries, including modeling, interior design, and travel, however, writing has always been her passion-even if she didn't go about it in the usual way. She earned a degree in creative writing from the University of Victoria in British Columbia and currently lives in a semi-rural setting fifteen minutes from that city.

5 reasons why you should read this book. Let's be honest: That's how we like it. 1. The title: 'Black Rose' already sounds like a dark combination of old mysteries, a touch of romance and straight willpower. The subtitle adds a pinch of cheekiness and outrage. These ingredients well stirred gives you......more

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Here it is. Black Rose is Pete Adams’ eighth book, and the first in the Larkin’s Barkin’ series of darkly comic crime novels. Set during the summer of 1966, the story follows the mysterious Irish detective, DI Padraig (Paddy to his......more

This is the third book I have reviewed from architect and author Pete Adams. The first two were Dead No More (Rhubarb Papers Book 1) in 2021 and Rite Judgement (DaDa Detective Agency Book 2) in 2022. Although all three books are situated in different series, they are united in a single, whimsical wo......more

The decision to review and my opinions are my own.* I’ve read some of Pete Adams books before, specifically the Kind Hearts and Martinets series, and so am familiar with his genius at pick ‘n’ mixing elements from different genres to ver......more
