Synopsis

Recently married to James Lacey, the witty and fractious Agatha Raisin quickly finds that marriage, and love, are not all they are cracked up to be. Rather than basking in marital bliss, the newlyweds are living in separate cottages and accusing each other of infidelity. After a particularly raucous fight in the local pub, James suddenly vanishes—a bloodstain the only clue to his fate—and Agatha is the prime suspect.Determined to clear her name and find her husband, Agatha begins her investigation. But her sleuthing is thwarted when James' suspected mistress, Melissa, is found murdered. Joined by her old friend Sir Charles, Agatha digs into Melissa's past and uncovers two ex-husbands, an angry sister, and dubious relations with bikers. Are Melissa's death and James' disappearance connected? Will Agatha reunite with her husband, or will she find herself alone once again?

Agatha keeps pulling me back; I cannot say that each book is better than the last, because that is not always the case, but I find myself wanting to be Agatha’s cheerleader. She constantly makes bad choices, but I am not sure that she does it intentionally. She seems to be that person who always fai......more

Good riddance to James Lacey. This one might be my favorite yet, as the culmination of the will-they-won't-they relationship between Agatha & James finally gets resolved. If you've been reading along so far, you know that he unromantically proposed marriage to her in the last book and she said yes. W......more

Gotta tell ya, I love Agatha! She's so human. She hates all the stuff that comes with middle age and fights it with everything short of healthy eating and exercise. Let's not be nuts here. If facials and high heels can't handle it, what can? Her marriage to one of the worse husbands in the world cr......more

One of Agatha's better adventures. This time she's on the pursuit of her husband James who has gone missing under mysterious circumstances after forming a close relationship with an emotionally unstable woman in the village who is murdered. Agatha can be a huge pain but also utterly hilarious. I wou......more

I enjoyed this one immensely. Agatha and James marriage is on the rocks partly because he has a brain tumor but he goes to a monastery in the south of France and gets cured. Meantime Agatha and Sir Charles have to solve the murder mystery. As usual they do a great job of it. Wish I had the next one......more

Quotes

Agatha Raisin and the Love from Hell is sheer fun. Beaton tells a sly story as she satirizes cozy English village life. The intrepid Agatha is in fine form as she proves no one can make a monkey out of her!” RT Book Reviews (4 stars)

“Donada Peters, whose name and voice are synonymous with this plucky middle-aged heroine, paints Aggie as a quirky but endearingly straightforward sleuth. Because Peters has read the whole series, reaching for her audiobooks is like reaching for an old friend.”  AudioFile

“Among the many joys of all Agatha Raisin adventures are Beaton’s sweetly formal prose and her vivid descriptions of colorful villagers. This one, however, adds a crackerjack plot and a delightfully comic ending to the mix, making it clearly the best of the lot. A must for all cozy fans.” Booklist

“Anyone interested in a few hours’ worth of intelligent, amusing reading will want to make the acquaintance of Mrs. Agatha Raisin.” Atlanta Journal-Constitution, praise for the series
