Synopsis

Honoria Keyes isn't the gawky, impressionable fifteen year old girl she was when she first met Simon Fairchild. Twelve years have passed, and she's a successful artist, enjoying her independence to the fullest. Simon has changed, too. Gone is the beautiful, gentle boy of Honoria's dreams. In his place is a dangerous, damaged man intent on avoiding human contact—and emotions. It would be unthinkable to fall for this difficult, wounded recluse. But then again, Honoria has never been one to do things the easy way . . .

Simon returned from Waterloo a bitter, broken shell of the man he once was. As if his scarred body and mind aren't bad enough, he's also financially dependent on his brother, the duke, while he convalesces. The duke's fondest wish is for Simon to marry and produce an heir—something Simon has no intention of doing. The one thing he never anticipated? All the unwanted feelings the lovely, talented, and infinitely intriguing Honoria would awaken in him . . .

Can Honoria and Simon heal the wounds of the past and build a life together? Or will their attempt at happily ever after end up a portrait of failure?

Contains mature themes.

About S.M. LaViolette

S. M. LaViolette also writes historical romance under the name Minerva Spencer and historical mystery under the name S. M. Goodwin.

Unlike many authors, S. M. hasn't wanted to be a writer since she was knee-high to a grasshopper. In fact, she's a very late bloomer and didn't write her first book until she was forty-five. That book, Dangerous, came out in 2018, the year S. M. turned 50. She is living proof that it is never too late to try something brand new.

Since 2018 she has published fifteen books and two novellas, one which is included in an anthology with mega bestselling author Sylvia Day.

S. M. has worked as a college history teacher, bed and breakfast owner, criminal prosecutor, and bartender (her favorite job next to writing). S. M. now writes full time and lives with her husband and multiple animals in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. When she's not writing she's cleaning out chicken coops, crafting, or reading.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4 stars. Well, I'm glad I didn't DNF'ed this one. The pacing is really slow in the 1st half (I kept thinking to myself, is this going somewhere?) but picks up in the 2nd half. Honoria or 'Honey' has been in love with Simon, Marquess of Sayborn for 14 years since she met him whe......more

4 Stars Miss Spencer suffers from something I call - "Over plotting". Barring that, the story, the characters and the theme was fun, engaging, steamy and quite delicious!......more

2 stars 2 stars because I actually finished it. There were parts I completely skipped. I'm not a "the end justifies the means" person and there's a lot of that here. I won't read the others in the series......more

The third talented teacher from the now defunct Stefani Academy for Young Ladies, Honoria Keyes. (Grab book 1 and 2 from the series, if you have not yet, they are throughly enjoyable read). Ms. S M Laviolette/ Minerva Spencer does it again. No mundane formulae stories by her. She presents a well writt......more
