Michael Crichton (1942–2008) is one of the most prolific bestselling authors of all time with over two hundred million copies sold worldwide, in forty languages, including Jurassic Park, The Lost World, Sphere, Next, Prey, Disclosure, Eaters of the Dead, and Congo. His books have been adapted into fifteen films, most notably Jurassic Park, directed by Steven Spielberg, which launched one of the highest-grossing entertainment franchises of all time. A remarkable and versatile talent, Crichton wrote and directed several films, including Westworld, The Great Train Robbery (based on his novel), and Coma, and created the television series ER. He received his MD from Harvard Medical School and was a postdoctoral fellow at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies. After writing novels under the pseudonyms John Lange and Jeffery Hudson while he was still a medical student, his first bestseller as Michael Crichton, The Andromeda Strain, was adapted into a classic film.
Ray Porter is an AudioFile Earphones Award–winning narrator and fifteen-year veteran of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. He has appeared in numerous films and television shows, including Almost Famous, ER, and Frasier.
This didn't feel like a Crichton novel, but it was still tons of fun.......more
If you know, going into this, that it's written specifically as a "John Lange" novel, and not as a "Michael Crichton" novel, you'll be likely to enjoy it. It gives me HUGE Michael Douglas and Jeffery Hudson vibes. Love it for what it is. Banger.......more
“Sharp humor, convincing dialogue, and breakneck pacing bring both the mystery and the movie set to life. Film buffs will enjoy this one just as much as mystery lovers.” Publishers Weekly (starred review)
“The writing is tight and the story exciting.” borg.com on Scratch One
“Crichton clearly had a lot of fun writing the book, and readers will have just as much fun reading it.” Booklist
“Crichton, as in the SF novels that would make him famous, sweats every detail of the background, and aspiring filmmakers will learn as much about the mechanics of moviemaking as they could from most film textbooks. If you think the big reveal falls flat, just keep on reading to the end. A sly reminder that ‘movies, like politics, are unreality. That’s the point of them.’” Kirkus Reviews
