Synopsis

What if the greatest honeymoon in history took place among the stars? In the year 1900, as the world stands on the brink of a devastating global conflict, a brilliant nobleman and a daring American heiress vanish from the surface of the Earth. Lord Redgrave has done the impossible: he has realized the dreams of a forgotten genius to build the Astronef, a vessel capable of navigating the shoreless ocean of space. His mission is twofold—to prevent a world war through the sheer awe of his technology, and to steal away his true love, Zaidie Rennick, from a soul-crushing marriage of convenience.A Honeymoon in Space is a foundational masterpiece of Science Fiction that predates the modern space opera. From the breathtaking heights of the Atlantic clouds to the desolate, ghost-haunted craters of the Moon, follow Lenox and Zaidie as they witness sights no human eye was ever meant to see. Their journey is a 'Grand Tour' of the solar system, discovering the secrets of Mars, the beauty of Venus, and the terrifying silence of dead civilizations. Why you will love this: Fans of Jules Verne and H.G. Wells will find a kindred spirit in Griffith’s work. This story masterfully blends Steampunk aesthetics with Hard Science Fiction concepts of gravity and atmosphere, all wrapped in a sweeping Planetary Romance. It is an essential listen for anyone who craves high-adventure exploration, retro-futurism, and the enduring power of human ingenuity against the infinite dark.George Griffith was a prolific pioneer of the 'scientific romance' in the late 19th century. Known for his staggering imagination and ability to predict future technologies, his legacy as a titan of early Science Fiction is perfectly captured in this cinematic, star-bound odyssey.

Alright so this was the book I chose for the "between 1900 and 1950" task of the Read Harder challenge. It's an early work of science fiction and it does some interesting things, but I really can't give it more than two stars. It was interesting to see what people imagined the surfaces of these plane......more

A rich british man and spunky american woman fly around the solar system. Each planet or moon they visit represents a potential view of the past or future of the human race. Its really quite good pulpy sci-fi and the female character is fairly strong for the time.......more

Boy meets girl. Boy kidnaps girl. Boy marries girl and takes her for a spin around the Solar System. Oh, sure. The plot is rudimentary. However, A Honeymoon is Space is noticeably easier to read than either The Angel of the Revolution or The Outlaws of the Air which are two other George Griffith novels......more

Weird thing. I didn't like it for another reason, but maybe you'll find this title helpful. I'll drop this. I got floored during a romantic moment so I'm going to drop this. (Description of white lady) "Youngest daughter of the branch of the Race that Rules."......more

An Old-Fashioned Hoot This book is charming with it's naive tale of space-faring adventure. Though the science is not exactly cutting edge, it is quite inciteful for the time it was written.......more
