Synopsis

Paraplegic young prosecutor Pen Wilkinson prepares to bring a corrupt congressman to justice in the first big trial of her career, only to find the stakes much higher than she imagined. Just before trial, Pen’s star witness disappears—either killed or driven into hiding by an unknown, terrifying form of coercion. As Pen searches across the country for the missing witness, she uncovers a massive web of corporate and political crime that goes far beyond the case she is prosecuting. With the trial date fast approaching, Pen’s search is complicated by the astonishing arrest of her boyfriend, banker James Carter, for the murder of his former lover. As Pen presses on, trying to prosecute her case while exonerating her friend, the focus of the murder investigation shifts from Carter to another suspect with a strong motive: Pen herself.

About Brian Lutterman

About Jess Wright

Jess Wright has been a book lover since she learned to read, a passion that turned into a lifelong obsession with Stephen King at age eleven. Her introduction to audiobooks came at twelve, when her father lost his eyesight to diabetes and began receiving “Books on Tape” from the Library for the Blind. Fascinated by that storytelling, Jess eventually pursued a career in narration. Working from her home studio in Nashville, TN, Jess narrates across many genres, including romance, literary fiction, thrillers, and YA. She especially loves smart, sassy, take-no-bs main characters and surprise twist endings nobody saw coming. Her professional background includes roles as a radio personality, news reporter, and music business journalist. She loves reading even when it’s not for work, raising money for St. Jude, and snuggling with her two pit bulls. And she’s really, really hoping to someday narrate a Stephen King novel.
