About Friedrich Nietzsche

Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900) was a German philosopher and philologist whose best-known works include Thus Spoke Zarathustra; Ecce Homo; Human, All Too Human; and Beyond Good and Evil. Much of his work is characterized by radical questioning of the value and objectivity of truth and criticism of traditional ideals of morality. Nietzsche's writings were significant influences on the existentialist, nihilist, and postmodernist schools of thought, as well as on the work of such later writers as Herman Hesse, Albert Camus, Sigmund Freud, and Jean-Paul Sartre.

Horror movies never frightened me in the same way certain works of literature and film did. I was warned that Nietzsche was dangerous for young readers (like Machia......more

The best way that I can describe this book is as a religious experience, which is kind of paradoxical because the main idea of the book is that “God is dead.” When Zarathustra, the ancient Persian prophet, emerges from his 10-year solitude and exclaims that God has died, he doesn’t mean that literal......more

This is so many things at once: it is wise and intelligent; it is funny and perceptive; it is creative and playful, but it is also nonsensical and impenetrable. Simply put, I am not quite sure if I am ready for this book. I consider myself relatively well-read, but I do not feel well-read enough to......more

Thus Spoke Zarathustra is a messy, self-serious heap of obscure references and ungracious philosophy wrapped in a mountain of bad allegory. And yet, there are moments of brilliance hidden in the midden pile of Nietzsche's impenetrable poetry and prose that almost make it worth the effort. This may b......more

Nu mi-a plăcut niciodată proza poematică din Also sprach........more
