THE WINTER SPIRITS is a follow up to 2021's THE HAUNTING SEASON, with more spooky Gothic tales for the holidays. Again, the collection was good overall, with some I enjoyed more than others: • Host by Kiran Millwood Hargrave: 4 Stars (séance gone wrong — or right?) • Inferno by Laura Shepherd-......more

(3.5) Much better than its predecessor, 2021’s The Haunting Season – if not entirely free of its flaws. This time, there are some new contributors and four more stories, but still no credited editor; this means the issues of the first book are somewhat repeated. Every story here has a historical......more

Terrific - every bit as good as an MR James collection

I absolutely devoured The Winter Spirits - every story is a gem. This collection will form part of my Christmas reading tradition.

This is another dazzling collection which bridges the gap between tradition and new writing quite brilliantly. Each author's voice is eerily distinct in stories that range from playful melancholy to outright terror. It's a wonderful anthology: chilling, moving, tremendously satisfying, and a joy to read.

An eerily macabre, hauntingly propulsive collection of ghostly tales

A masterful collection of spooky tales. Each one is truly original. The Winter Spirits is a real treat for the autumn and winter.

This deliciously eerie follow-up to the bestselling ghost story collection The Haunting Season is the perfect bedfellow for these cold winter nights. WOMAN & HOME
