Synopsis

The Way of Peace is a New Thought book written by James Allen. Although Allen is more widely known for his As a Man Thinketh, it is the lesser known The Way of Peace (1907) which reflects more accurately his New Thought Movement affiliations, referencing as it does Christianity, Buddhism, and Hinduism. The book is essentially a treatise on the importance of meditation as a 'pathway to divinity'. Whatever we meditate upon, Allen explains, we become. If you meditate upon ' that which is selfish and debasing, you will ultimately become selfish and debased'. Whereas if you meditate upon ' that which is pure and unselfish you will surely become pure and unselfish'.The book consists of seven chapters: The Power Of Meditation; The Two Masters, Self and Truth; The Acquirement of Spiritual Power; The Realisation of Selfless Love; Entering into the Infinite; Saints, Sages, and Saviors, The Law of Service; and The Realisation of Perfect Peace. The first chapter also contains a poem, 'Star of Wisdom', which captures the essence of the book.

Some books pertaining to the spiritual feel like overly soft pillows, you sink into them with little struggle and then find yourself being smothered. This is definitely not one of those. Hard-hitting, at times searing in its intensity, Mr. Allen is not above calling humanity out for its seeming dedi......more

Allen describes the path to peace as one of becoming one with others with love by abstaining from self-seeking. Are you willing to deny yourself? Self is the denial of truth, truth is the denial of self. In other words, those who cling to selfishness simply cannot find peace because peace does not c......more

This is a spirituality book, I loved the first chapters of finding the inner peace, elevating the mind to the higher realms of spirituality and being contented. Not a very good read, got bored along the way, comparing with Allen's book this was below expectation......more

I couldn't help but hear my old young self debating with this book and me over how it was so wrong. You CAN have peace without guilt, fight, pain, their is no sin in striving for love. Peace can come if you will just stop fighting about who is right about what is truth.......more
