Synopsis

Godkiller meets Powerless in this epic gods-and-monsters romantic fantasy from British Fantasy Award-winning author Jen Williams.

Welcome to a world where gods and monsters roam the earth . . .

Elver is the guardian of the wild and dangerous monster forest. Saved from the brink of death by a god, her skin will poison anyone she touches.

Artair is on a mission - one that takes him face-to-face with Elver at her most ruthless. But her defenses are useless when she discovers he's the only human impervious to her deadly gift. For Artair isn't human: he's one of the Sleepless, cursed to share his body with an evil spirit.

Lucian inhabits their body while Artair sleeps, and he is hell-bent on manipulating Elver for his dark purposes. But Elver is harbouring secrets too, and she has her own reasons for feigning an alliance with these two souls.

Caught in the crossfire of gods, monsters, and a dangerous magic they can barely understand, it is only a matter of time before the paths the three of them choose to take will set alight the very foundations of their world.

With a love triangle like you’ve never seen it, incredible world-building, brilliant writing, and a dangerous quest, The Sleepless will have you spellbound.

A Macmillan Audio production from Wednesday Books

She is partially responsible for the creation of the long-running social event Super Relaxed Fantasy Club, and her first thriller, Dog Rose Dirt, was optioned for television by Gaumont. When not writing books Jen enjoys video games, tabletop roleplaying games and watching scary movies. She also works as a freelance copywriter and illustrator.

A non-conventional love triangle where the love interests share a body. Elver is the guardian of the wild and dangerous forest of monsters. Saved from a sacrificial death by the Queen of Serpents, her skin poisons any human she touches. Artair is one of the Sleepless, cursed so when he falls asleep,......more

The concept of this book was something I really enjoyed. One of the main characters has another entity living in his body. When he falls asleep, the other being comes to life, and that being can be unpredictable, so he is kept locked up at night to prevent chaos. It reminded me a lot of Elspeth from......more

A gorgeously rich, YA romantasy that had me absolutely swooning at its epic, high stakes plot and unusual love triangle (between a monster girl, a possessed boy and the evil spirit that inhabits him) which had me thoroughly obsessed! I previously read Jen Williams’ epic fantasy, Talonsister, and fel......more

This book took a little time to pull me in, but once it did, I enjoyed the atmosphere. The descriptions were vivid, and the world felt immersive without being overly complicated. The writing felt somewhat simple at times. Effective in setting the scene, but lacking a bit of depth. I did appreciate th......more
