Reviews

Goodreads review by Sherrie

An introduction to stargazing by Adrian West, who, as Virtual Astro, runs pages about the subject on social media. Well worth following I should add. A very easy to follow book for the complete novice, almost too simplistic. Only disappointment was the lack of pictures or photos.......more

I had to knock off a star as this book, as whilst a lovely idea is behind it and it is full of inspiration and enthusiasm for the subject it needed a bloody good copy edit to take out the unnecessary and improve the flow. Then it would have felt less like a blog post, or a book written for children.......more

I met Adrian on one of his evening Stargazing evenings and it didn't disappoint as we watched the Geminid Meteor shower. A truly passionate man who is incredibly keen to share his knowledge. This book is a fantastic introduction for anyone new to stargazing and is written in a simple and engaging wa......more

It’s very much aimed as an introduction and on......more

Quotes

'Stargazing is a lovely book. It's personal, delicate and beautifully innocent. For those more experienced astronomers, it is a reminder of why so many of us immerse ourselves in the hobby, and for those just starting out, it is a useful leg-up onto the first rung of the stargazing ladder. Katrin Raynor-Evans, Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society and an astronomy writer, BBC Sky at Night

In this accessible and feel-good stargazing guide he majors on how looking up at the night sky is good for mental well-being. Written from the heart but with expert tips, The Secret World of Stargazing acts as a succinct and simple to understand manual for any "accidental stargazers" who picked up the habit during 2020 and now want to take the next step and learn to navigate and to know the night sky. An excellent, readable, bright guide to the night sky. Dara O Briain
