Joseph Smith Fletcher (1863–1935) was a British journalist and author. He wrote more than 230 books on a wide variety of subjects, both fiction and nonfiction. He was one of the leading writers of detective fiction in the Victorian golden age of the short story.
John Rayburn (1927–2024) was a veteran of over sixty years in broadcasting. He served as a news/sports anchor and show host, and his TV newscast achieved the largest share of audience figures of any major-market TV newscast in the nation. John was a member of the Broadcast Pioneers Hall of Fame. Good story to a point. I liked the idea of the story and the setting but the ending was too abrupt. There were too many loose ends. The author should have explained what happened next, clarified the many cliffhangers and followed the main characters to a satisfying conclusion.......more
Easily among the best of Fletcher's Quite a decent whodunnit, this one Full-marks for the plot and the setting. Suspects galore! Suspicion keeps shifting from one to the other, in the most approved detective fiction fashion. Enjoyable read, recommended to the mystery buffs :)......more
