Synopsis

This book came out at the beginning of the UFO craze, seventy years ago. With continuing interest in the subject (History series Project Blue Book, Ancient Aliens, etc.), The Flying Saucers are Real is great resource for those curious about the early days of this field. This edition has been updated for modern reading.   Here is the story as it was told in the Kansas City Star:In flight, the ring revolved at a high rate of speed, while the cabin remained stationary like the center of a gyroscope. Each of the two ships seen by Koehler were occupied by a crew of two. In the badly damaged ship, these bodies were charred so badly that little could be learned from them. The occupants of the other ship, while dead when they were found, were not burned or disfigured, and, when Koehler saw them, were in a perfect state of preservation. Medical reports, according to Koehler, showed that these men were almost identical with earth-dwelling humans, except for a few minor differences. They were of a uniform height of three feet, were uniformly blond, beardless, and their teeth were completely free of fillings or cavities. They did not wear undergarments, but had their bodies taped. The ships seemed to be magnetically controlled and powered.

Donald Keyhoe, who is considered to be not only the first “flying saucer” researcher/investigator – and hence, UFOlogist before that term was fashionable – was also the first to suggest that the United States Air Force was covering up the truth about UFOs. And from what the......more

Overall a pretty boring book that is just a bunch of interviews and reports made by the author regarding alleged sightings and government coverups - nothing groundbreaking or unexpected for anyone who has read at least a little into the hunt for flying saucers. Personally, I'm not really a believer......more

It's an interesting analysis but you should read for yourself and make your own conclusion. This is one of the first big books in ufology. It came out in 1950, only a couple of years into the UFO craze. It focuses on a few key sightings most of which are still considered to be classic UFO encounters. It's written in first person and feels very much like reading a mystery novel. It makes fo......more

I picked this book up from the Park Ridge Public Library during my UFO phase in grade school. Too young to check out books from the adult library, I read it there along with many other books on the subject. Meanwhile, at home I'd spend evenings in the backyard watching the sky with my cardboard tele......more
