Synopsis

The Bourne Identity meets Minority Report in this “truly wild ride” (RT Book Reviews) set in a futuristic Detroit—the first in #1 New York Times bestselling author Kim Harrison’s Peri Reed Chronicles.

Peri Reed is a Drafter—a special ops agent with the unique ability to jump back forty seconds in time when missions go wrong. But this skill allows her partner, who is responsible for replacing her memory of events, to feed her false memories and set her up as a corrupt agent.

Working with Silas, a broody, intriguing psychologist trying to bring Opti corruption to light, Peri begins to piece her twisted reality together as she flees the organization she once trusted implicitly.

Peri is caught: rebuilding the memory of the night she killed her partner risks her sanity and in trying to put an end to Opti, she is only getting closer to the very faction that wants to see her dead. Can she get her revenge, or will her tenuous grip on reality leave her vulnerable all over again?

About Kim Harrison

American born author, Kim Harrison, has tried different genres, but has settled into graphic and traditional fantasy novels. Her given name is Dawn Cook, and she did publish traditional fantasy under that name. Her #1 New York Times best-selling Hollow series is Harrison's most famous and most lucrative work. Her urban fantasy is best known, but she has also written young adult, accelerated science fiction thriller, anthology, full-color world book, and two graphic novels set in the Hollows universe.

Under her pen name of Dawn Cook, Harrison wrote Decoy Princess and Truth series. The main character, Rachel Morgan, is in an urban fantasy genre where there is a worldwide pandemic caused by genetically modified tomatoes. The pandemic causes the death of much of the world's population. This novel was published in the early years of the 21st century. Harrison's newest novel is American Demon.

Harrison was born and raised in the Midwest. She considers herself a "tomboy", having been the only girl in a family of boys. She has another unusual attribute for an author......she avoided all English classes, except those required in high school. Pretty unorthodox for a very successful author. She now resides in her home state of Michigan.

This book drew me in. A very interesting premise about those with the ability to time travel and how a corrupt government might abuse their vulnerabilities. Kim Harrison created a fascinating world with real feeling characters. My only compliant was that it was a bit hard to read emotionally. The main character gets taken advantage of so much, it was hard for me to keep reading about. But theres hope for a better future for her, so read on!

Re-Read 10/1/16 in prep for book 2. I usually don't do re-reads for new releases, but this one rather screams the need. A lot goes on, and there are so many twists and turns in the plot that it really is a nightmare of interpersonal horrors. :) It doesn't help that this level of mindfuckery is sancti......more

If you're a fan of the Hollows and you're debating whether to pick up this very different kind of book from Kim Harrison, let me make it easy for you: do it. Of course, this recommendation isn't only for fans of Rachel Morgan, but I have to admit that after loving those books so much, for so long, I......more

I’d actually like to start out with an ultra-mini review of Sideswiped: It was a perfect introduction of the characters, magic system, and slightly futuristic/alternate society. I thought it was absolutely delightful, yet heart wrenching at the same time. I loved every moment and afterward was total......more
