Synopsis

The essay is a scathing critique of the German composer Richard Wagner, whom Nietzsche had previously admired, but later came to despise. Nietzsche argues that Wagner's music represents a decadent and degenerate form of art, which promotes a nihilistic and life-denying worldview. He also accuses Wagner of promoting a kind of fake heroism, which he believes is dangerous and misleading. Overall, "The Case of Wagner" is a powerful critique of Wagner and his artistic legacy, and a provocative exploration of the nature of art and its relationship to human culture and values. Read in English, unabridged.

About Friedrich Nietzsche

Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900) was a German philosopher and philologist whose best-known works include Thus Spoke Zarathustra; Ecce Homo; Human, All Too Human; and Beyond Good and Evil. Much of his work is characterized by radical questioning of the value and objectivity of truth and criticism of traditional ideals of morality. Nietzsche's writings were significant influences on the existentialist, nihilist, and postmodernist schools of thought, as well as on the work of such later writers as Herman Hesse, Albert Camus, Sigmund Freud, and Jean-Paul Sartre.

Nietzsche Wagner'i duygusuz olmakla suçluyor, bir ölçüde katılıyorum. Wagner'in müziğinin açıklanmaya ihtiyaç duymasını eleştiriyor. Wagner'in zor anlaşılmaktan değil, müziğinin zor anlaşılamamasından korktuğunu söylüyor. Wagner'in dürüstlüğü önemli, sadece teknik buluş yapıyor, dürüst değil, diyor. "......more

In regards to this book in general: Nietzsche could have said all of the main points in a couple of pages but instead becomes almost Wagneresque in his "unending melody" of poetic whining. Loomingu Raamatukogu kohta: Tegu on totaalselt skisofreenilise kogemusega. Kaks Nietzsche teksti olid minu jaoks p......more
