Synopsis

The description “consulting detective” was often a reference to Sherlock Holmes, but that was inadequate to tell about his unusual characteristics. He was a loner who preferred to keep to himself and kept many secrets from others, including the few friends he had. Holmes did have a constant professional relationship with Dr. Watson, and it was the faithful Watson who once said, “I had no idea that such personalities exist outside of stories.”The two followed trails of a wide range of criminals throughout London, southern England, and continental Europe with solutions based on the Holmes intuition as often as not. Join us for the beginning of a series of fascinating stories about a fascinating character.

About Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859–1930) was a writer and physician most noted for his fictional stories about the detective Sherlock Holmes, the first scientific detective, which are generally considered milestones in the field of crime fiction. Before becoming a writer, he attended the University of Edinburgh to train as a physician, and it was from his teacher, Joseph Bell, that he learned much of what would inspire Holmes’s skills of deduction. He also wrote science fiction stories, historical novels, plays, romances, poetry, and nonfiction. After his son Kingsley died in the first World War, he became a convert to spiritualism and a social reformer who used his investigative skills to prove the innocence of individuals.

The short stories are certainly creative, though they sometimes get a bit redundant in that, in good Holmes' fashion, details are described and Holmes is the only one who can put them all together. It did get me to be a better observer, though I can't quite figure a person out y......more
