Synopsis

The reincarnated Julian 7th teams up with John Carter of Mars himself in thrilling novel in the Wild Adventures of Edgar Rice Burroughs series!

In 2076 AD, Earth has been conquered and humanity brutally enslaved under the cruel tyranny of the Kalkar invaders whose evil was spawned from Va-nah, the Moon’s hollow interior. But when a desperate plea comes from the planet Barsoom, Julian 7th—descendant of the great hero who nearly defeated the Kalkars—is hurled upon a lonely quest into the heart of Va-nah. There he must team up with a U-ga princess and a fierce alien quadruped to launch a daring rescue to save a lost Barsoomian ambassadorial mission. Their success of depends on an unlikely alliance with John Carter, Warlord of Mars, to assail the enemy’s impregnable stronghold. If they fail, humanity—and the entire solar system—will never escape the iron grip of the Moon Men.

Christopher Paul Carey’s SWORDS AGAINST THE MOON MEN is everything a top-quality pastiche novel should be. Carey has rigorously studied the original Moon trilogy by Edgar Rice Burroughs and he has the continuity and the timeline down cold. He has plotted a rousing adventure filled with swordplay and......more

A REVIEW OF "SWORDS AGAINST THE MOON MEN" The spirit of Edgar Rice Burroughs is alive and well in the new "Swords Against the Moon Men." Writer Christopher Paul Carey, already well established as the torch bearer for the Ancient Opar/Khokarsa series begun by Phillip Jose Farmer, now proves he can cha......more

I am very happy to give Christopher Carey ***** for his book SWORDS AGAINST THE MOON MEN. This is a book published by Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc. as part of their series of stories based on books and characters written by ERB. Of course, ERB is most famous for his Tarzan books but some of us ERB fan......more

When it comes to Burroughsian literature written after the death of the Master of Adventure in 1950, the one book I have always used as the "gold standard" against which all others are measured has been "Tarzan And The Valley Of Gold," Fritz Leiber's novelization of the 1966 Mike Henry film. That ha......more

Carey does an excellent job keeping the Burroughs style and flavor and there are enough twists at the end that the story resonates after completion. SPOILER: The risky thing that Carey does with this book is he introduces a crossover character, John Carter, from the Warlord of Mars series. The big d......more

Quotes

"[Carey's] imagination is fertile and there is not a slack part in the entire 225 odd pages of this wonderfully illustrated book... Carey's experience allows him to mimic ERB's style so closely you almost wonder if the story came from some dusty vault in Tarzana, California... If you are an ERB fan like me, this book will easily transport you back to your youth, whether it was reading the old red Grosset and Dunlap reprints or an Ace paperback with a Roy Krenkel cover. The story's pace picks up so that by the last third there is a huge amount of action, with lots of ERB Easter eggs sprinkled along the way to delight faithful fans." --Andy Nunez, Ares Magazine

"It's a Burroughs pastiche, so there's obviously a significant romantic element, but Carey handles it so well, putting his own stamp on the work while remaining completely respectful to ERB's style and world-building. I've stated in a previous review that I regard Christopher Paul Carey as the best heroic fantasy author currently working and I see no reason here to change that opinion. This is another excellent, fast-paced read." --Dave Brzeski, The British Fantasy Society
