Synopsis

Recently married, Gail Connor hopes to learn more about her husband by visiting Cuba, his ancestral home. Anthony Quintana’s loyalties are divided between his family, believers in the Revolution, and his friends, including dissident writer Yolanda Cabrera. No one is aware that Yolanda’s twenty-year-old son, Mario, belongs to an underground group plotting the assassination of a Cuban general. The night before Gail and Anthony leave for Havana, the CIA pays a visit. They want Anthony to deliver a message to General Ramiro Vega: He is in grave danger, unless he defects. Why is Vega so important? The answer leads to the discovery of a secret terrorist threat, and a love from the past that could tear Gail and Anthony apart.

Language wasn’t as eloquent as some 4 star books, but good plotting and super location of Cuba. This book, based on bicultural marriage between Cuban-American Anthony and Anglo-American Gail, took place on their honeymoon visit to his Cuban family in 2003. Lots of personal differences depicted again......more

Wonderful political thriller about a Cuban-American criminal defense attorney who returns to his native Cuba to visit his aging father and his sister married to a general in the Cuban army. I thought this book was very good. I thought it was going to be a murder mystery set in Cuba. It is actually the story of Cuba set in a fictional story. It is about the people, their patriotism and passions, their betrayals and losses, what the revolution meant in Cuba and how it has played out over......more

This is the most recent book of the series. Parker's books are usually set in Miami, but this one is set in Havana Cuba where she goes with her new husband to meet his sister and her family. They get involved in plot. I learned a lot about modern day Cuba and the politics there. I enjoyed this book......more

Quotes

“Top-drawer suspense.” New York Times Book Review

“[Details] come alive in Dufris’ narration. Most importantly, Dufris’ voice draws the listener into the heart of the story, Anthony’s love for the country he was forced to leave when he was a teen.” AudioFile

“The interpersonal dynamics between Connor and Quintana remain sharp, and the Florida setting continues to add to the appeal. If Parker keeps writing them as smartly as she has written this one, her series may never turn stale.” Booklist
