Synopsis

This is the is the full sermon of Jonathan Edward's "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" with a contemporary theological introduction written by Robert J. Bagley, MA. Referred to by theological historians as the “Most famous sermon ever preached on American soil”, "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" is a sermon Jonathan Edwards preached to his own congregation in Northampton, Massachusetts, to little or no effect, and again on July 8, 1741 in Enfield, Connecticut to great effect! It is possible that his own congregation suffered from the proverbial “familiarity often breads contempt” or the Scripture that Jesus stated in Matthew 13:57, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own country and in his own house.” It took preaching this in someone else’s pulpit for it to have the impact it deserved. Tradition has it that many women in the Enfield congregation had been praying for revival and for this message prior to this famous sermon from the pulpit-visiting Edwards. In fact, Edwards was not even scheduled to preach this day and was asked at the last minute to do so which is why it is said he basically buried his head in his notes and read this timeless sermon word for word. However, it was the Holy Spirit’s anointing behind the words, not the engagement of the preacher, that caused many during the sermon to interrupt with moaning, weeping, and cries of "What shall I do to be saved?" We know you will enjoy this re-presentation and introduction. Steve Cook (six-time number-one best-selling, faith-based narrator and actor) does a masterful work of reciting this famous sermon that still has the power to save in the 21st century! God bless and please share with your friends on social media. You never know whose life will be changed!

"God hates you," is the thesis of Jonathan Edward's 1741 masterpiece of Puritan dickery, "And I do too." Hard as you try not to be shitty, "your foot will slide in due time." So when you're hit by a truck later today, which is likely since "the arrows of death fly unseen at noon-day," you will burn......more

This is not just a sermon, but also a warning of what awaits those should they slip into sin. I’m not a Christian, so please don’t think this is about me spreading religion by writing a review of this. Quite the contrary, this is about the sheer power behind these words. Edwards is a passionate writ......more

This book is composed of a number of sermons by the great preacher Jonathan Edwards. It is worth reading for the famous "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" sermon alone as it will definitely convict, challenge and hopefully inspire. There is also a shorter sermon on Use of Time which is very prac......more

The name of Jonathan Edwards (1703-1758) bulks large in American religious history, not only that of the colonial period, but as a whole. A brilliant intellectual (he entered Yale as a student in 1716 before turning 13, graduated as valedictorian of his class in 1720, and earned a master's degree in......more

Fire and Brimstone 4 November 2017 This is probably one of the more famous sermons that has been written, or more precisely delivered. In fact if somebody were to ask me to name some famous sermons this would probably be the only one that I could list. Sure, there have been a number of sermons publis......more
