Synopsis

Sand and Foam
by Kahlil Gibran
Narrated by Denis Daly
This collection of aphorisms, poems and parables has been described
as the reflections of a philosopher watching from his window
and commenting on the scenes passing before him.
Barbara Young in her biographical study of Gibran, "The Man from Lebanon,"
assessed this text as follows: "Sand and Foam is a book that will
penetrate the consciousness deeply and inevitably, as The
Prophet has done. It is my opinion, and I have often heard
others express it as their own, that there is not
in the language another book of its character, a book that
has not only three dimensions — height, depth, and breadth -
but also the fourth dimension, timelessness, which is but
another word for time unbounded, limitless......"

About Kahlil Gibran

Kahlil Gibran (1883–1931), a poet, philosopher, and artist, was born in Lebanon, a land that has produced many prophets. The millions of Arabic-speaking peoples familiar with his writings in that language consider him the genius of his age. But he was a man whose fame and influence spread far beyond the Near East. His poetry has been translated into more than twenty languages. His drawings and paintings have been exhibited in the great capitals of the world. In the United States, which he made his home during the last twenty years of his life, he began to write in English. His most famous work is The Prophet, a book of twenty-six poetic essays that explore some of the mysteries of life.

I read this exquisite gem of a book last night. There are only eighty-five pages of aphorisms, poems and parables but when I finished it I breathed a sigh of expectancy and felt that I had read a huge novel. What a wonderful experience. Gibran has a depth to him that I find quite unsurpassed. I felt......more
