Synopsis

Inspired by Corinne Bailey Rae's award-winning hit song, this audiobook celebrates music's unique power to soothe or energize us when we need it most.

"A feel-good hymn to fine music and intergenerational bonds."—Kirkus Reviews

"Today I'd like to do something I've never done before," Bea tells her great aunt Portia during one of their Sunday visits. And before she knows it, she's being led upstairs to an attic room she didn't know existed—a wonderful haven full of Portia's cherished items, including shelf after shelf of records. "There’s a song here for every emotion—for the whole rainbow of feelings," Portia tells Bea. Then they listen together, dancing to a celebration song, laughing along with a circus-happy song, and feeling held by a song that comforts them during a thunderstorm. Bea heads home at the end of the day, excited to continue learning about herself and her world through music.

Corinne Bailey Rae's “Put Your Records On” is a multi-platinum anthem about freedom and joy. Now, in this beautiful audiobook, the Grammy Award-winning musician brings that empowerment and exuberance to children.

Quotes

"A feel-good hymn to fine music and intergenerational bonds."—Kirkus

"Singer-songwriter Rae draws from her 2006 song to offer readers a story that beautifully depicts a strong cross-generational relationship between Bea and Portia, showing the ways that little ones learn from their elders and find joy in their moments together. The lush, dynamic art highlights movement and play, with soft sunlight shining through the window, bright blooms in the garden, colorful boas floating around, and Portia’s angelic, multicolored, gossamer-esque robe sweeping through the pages. This is an ideal choice for a musical storytime or an aunt and niece lapsit." —The Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books

"Bailey Rae crafts a warm, intergenerational story that captures how music evokes emotion and memory. O’Mara’s mixed-media illustrations portray sunshine and joy with subtle references to the story’s inspiration that are sure to tickle adult music fans. There is something eye-catching on every page.
