For anyone who thinks they already know Elizabeth Taylor, Matthew Kennedys "On Elizabeth Taylor: An Opinionated Guide" offers a welcome surprise. Rather than rehashing the familiar stories about her marriages, scandals, and larger-than-life public persona, Kennedy focuses on what often gets overlooked: Elizabeth Taylor the actress. What I found most impressive was the depth of Kennedys film knowledge and his willingness to evaluate each performance honestly. As the title promises, the book is opinionated, but never mean-spirited. Kennedy clearly admires Taylor while still examining her work with a critical eye. The result is a thoughtful, engaging guide that encouraged me to revisit films I hadnt seen in years and seek out several I had missed entirely. The fact that Kennedy narrates it himself gives it an added layer of honesty and candor. Whether youre a devoted Taylor fan or simply interested in classic Hollywood, this book provides a fresh perspective on one of cinemas most iconic stars. Its informative, entertaining, and, most importantly, it takes Elizabeth Taylors artistry seriously. Highly recommended.
