This is the third book in a series, however it reads perfectly well as a stand alone book as I haven't read the other two. I had read and enjoyed other books by the author, and this one didn't disappoint. Set in 1960s in the aftermath of the war, as Vicky's parents were both in the French resistance......more

3 Stelle generose, rating personale 2.5. Troppe descrizioni, troppi dettagli inutili per me. Rallentano e mi tirano fuori dalla storia. Personaggi poco convincenti. La mini dramma intorno a Saint Laurent è maeh. 3 Stars is generous. Personal rating is 2.5. Too many pointless descriptions and details......more

Quotes

‘A wonderfully evocative and sensual writer’ ‘A warm and engrossing tale of passion and courage. I loved it’ ‘Love, grief, abandonment, betrayal and secrets … I adored it’ ‘A stirring, richly-imagined novel about bravery and love and family loyalty tested to its limits’ ‘As layers of long-hidden family secrets emerge, you are sure to be hooked to the very last page’ ‘Rich in courage, love and sacrifice, but chilling and taut in its portrayal of the horrors of war’ ‘Lushly descriptive, exciting and vivid, this is a warm and exciting tale that will pull you in and refuse to let you go’ ‘A tender, moving and at times heartbreaking story’ ‘Completely swept me away to another place and time. Dinah is the queen of sumptuous settings, transporting the reader effortlessly from chocolate-box Devonshire to the cabaret clubs of 1920s Paris and war-torn Malta. A marvellous, multi-layered story, populated with characters to really care for’ ‘Dinah Jefferies wields her storytelling magic on the island of Malta . . . It’s engrossing and sensual, full of the heat of the Mediterranean sun’ ‘Sweeping and sumptuous with a gorgeous described sense of place. A marvellous adventure’
