Synopsis

What if a single day could expose the quiet unraveling of a man who believes he has everything under control? In “Mr. Reginald Peacock’s Day” by Katherine Mansfield, you follow a respected, self-assured teacher whose orderly world begins to fracture beneath the surface. As Mr. Peacock moves through the routines of his day - his classroom, his colleagues, his home - small disturbances ripple outward, revealing tensions he would rather ignore. Beneath his cultivated manners and professional authority lies a growing sense of unease and emotional isolation. Mansfield exposes the fragile pride of a man clinging to respectability, and the widening gap between appearance and truth. With her signature psychological insight, she transforms ordinary moments into sharp revelations. Press play and step into one of Mansfield’s most incisive studies of character - where routine becomes reckoning, and a single day brings a carefully maintained identity into question.

About Katherine Mansfield

Katherine Mansfield (1888–1923) was born in Wellington, New Zealand, and settled in Europe to finish her education. She published her first short fiction in The New Age, then in Rhythm, whose editor, the British writer and critic John Middleton Murry, she soon married. Her writing contributed to the development of the stream of consciousness technique and to the modernist use of multiple viewpoints, and her style has had a powerful influence on subsequent writers in the same genre.
