Synopsis

Lost Sci-Fi Books 286–290 brings together five powerful vintage science fiction short stories from the 1930s, 40s, 50s, and 60s, showcasing the bold imagination and speculative brilliance that defined the Golden Age of sci-fi.In The Tunnel Under the World, Frederik Pohl delivers a haunting, reality-warping story that questions identity, free will, and the terrifying consequences of manufactured worlds. Inside the Comet by Arthur C. Clarke explores cosmic mystery and scientific awe, capturing humanity’s fragile place within a vast and unknowable universe. With Outcast of the Stars, Ray Bradbury tells a tender, deeply human story of a father who cannot afford to send his family to Mars—and instead builds them an unforgettable journey powered by ingenuity, illusion, and love. From psychological menace to alien deception, Mimic by Donald A. Wollheim reveals how survival can demand unsettling transformations. Rounding out the collection, The Fearsome Touch of Death by Robert E. Howard blends science fiction with primal dread, reminding listeners that some threats transcend time, reason, and civilization itself.Together, these restored classics reflect a time when science fiction dared to speculate freely—before space was mapped, before futures were known, and when imagination led the way. This audiobook is essential listening for fans of vintage science fiction, classic short stories, and the enduring questions that continue to shape our understanding of humanity and the cosmos.
