Synopsis

It's fishing season, and Kate Shugak is working with Old Sam aboard the fish tender Freya when Cal Meany floats up dead. His reputation as a womanizer, strike breaker, and abusive father ensures that there are several suspects, multiple motives, and quite possibly more than one murderer. While Kate investigates the killing, her aunties mend nets, operate an illegal fish camp, and impart cultural wisdom to Jack and his son Johnny. Ultimately, Kate finds herself in grave danger, as even her aunts join the list of suspects.

About Dana Stabenow

Dana Stabenow was born in Anchorage and raised on a 75-foot fish tender in the Gulf of Alaska. She knew there was a warmer, drier job out there somewhere and found it in writing. Her first crime fiction novel, A Cold Day for Murder, won an Edgar award. Her first thriller, Blindfold Game, hit the New York Times bestseller list.

I'm not sure the politics of salmon fishing in Alaska are as interesting as Stabenow thinks they are, and there's an awful lot of salmon fishing politics in this one. Somewhere hidden in the middle is a not very interesting Who Dunnit? mystery which gives Kate the opportunity to play sleuth and get......more

She’s working this summer on a salmon boat for “Old Sam” (who may or may not be Kate’s uncle - who can keep track of all of her relatives?). Old Sam owns the Freya and he and Kate are especially busy weighing and tracking the......more
