About Floyd Cooper

Floyd Cooper is from Oklahoma, and earned a degree in fine arts from the University of Oklahoma before moving to New York City in 1984 to pursue a career in illustration. He received a Coretta Scott King Award for his illustrations in The Blacker the Berry and a Coretta Scott King Honor for his illustrations in Brown Honey in Broomwheat Tea and I Have Heard of a Land. Cooper lives in Pennsylvania with his family.

Wonderful story about the history of Juneteenth (which isn't an official holiday in the USA but should be) with lovely and sweet illustrations! The last few lines were so poignant and well written.......more
