Synopsis

From the moment he exploded onto our screens in 1985 as ‘Nasty’ Nick Cotton, John Altman changed the face of TV villains for good.
But there is far more to John’s story than Nick Cotton. This searingly honest autobiography (revised and updated for the audiobook release) traces the colourful childhood of a desperately shy and art-loving boy growing up in a loving household where he was encouraged to follow his dreams. But as a teenager he was arrested on suspicion of drug possession on the way back from his travels in Afghanistan and India, and the experimentation didn’t stop there.
For it was the descent into alcoholism, that was to test him the most. It cost him his marriage and almost his sanity and those demons allowed him to shape Nick Cotton into one of the most memorable soap characters of our times.

About John Altman

John Altman is a graduate of Harvard, where he designed his own major, Development and Construction of the Novel. Although the major required him to write three novels, they were all destroyed in a fire at his parents' home. He lives in New York City, and is at work on a sequel to A Gathering of Spies.

A very personal and detailed look into John’s life. Having been given this book by John (I worked with him during a panto season) it’s been great to learn more about him. He’s an insightful person and that shines through in this. Thoroughly recommend reading.......more
