Synopsis

What makes a crowd think, feel, and act as one?In Group Psychology and The Analysis of The Ego, Sigmund Freud investigates the hidden forces that shape collective behavior and the individual mind within a group. Drawing on psychoanalysis, he explores how identification, emotional contagion, and attachment to a leader can transform personal judgment, intensify feeling, and alter conscience. The result is a compact, provocative work that connects the psychology of crowds with the structure of the ego and the ties that bind people together. This audiobook offers a clear path into classic psychology, Freud, and psychoanalytic theory, with ideas that resonate in social psychology, group dynamics, leadership psychology, and the study of persuasion. Listen for Freud’s careful attention to how bonds of love, rivalry, and belonging influence loyalty, conformity, and collective belief, and how these pressures can reshape a sense of self.Whether you are exploring psychology and philosophy, seeking insight into mass behavior, or building a foundation in foundational texts in psychotherapy, this is an essential listen. Start listening now and follow Freud’s reasoning into the heart of group life.

About Sigmund Freud

Sigmund Freud (1856–1939) was an Austrian psychiatrist and the founder of psychoanalysis. Considered the most influential psychological theorist of the twentieth century, Freud's theories have had an enormous influence on art, literature, and social thinking. Freud's fundamental idea was that all humans are endowed with an unconscious in which potent sexual and aggressive drives, and defenses against them, struggle for supremacy. His first major work was The Interpretation of Dreams, which established the importance of the psychoanalytical movement. His other writings include Three Essays on the Theory of Sexuality, Group Psychology and the Analysis of the Ego, The Future of an Illusion, The Ego and the Id, and Beyond the Pleasure Principle.

Over the last few years, I have pondered the dynamics of group psychology. We see events on TV and the Internet, yet sometimes the underlying evil which appears to be present is difficult to assign to the individuals participating. In other words, the group actions may be unthinkable to an individua......more
