Synopsis

What if the way the Church is "doing church" is the very reason the world is seeing less of Jesus in it every day?

Beginning with the biblical basics, Jeff Lockyer walks readers through the underlying theology and practical application of how Southridge Community Church has approached ministry for nearly a quarter century. While providing a fresh approach to ministry, the book stimulates how to think-not what to think. It's written by a local church practitioner for local church practitioners.

By providing clarity to the confused, it helps church leaders find their way. By providing practical examples delivered uniquely in multiple church contexts, it supports leaders in finding their own way. And, most of all, by re-framing the operation of the church around fostering full devotion instead of facilitating consumerism, it enables leaders of local churches to reclaim the lifestyle of Jesus among its people. It supports churches and leaders to find their Way-the Way of Jesus.

About The Author

Jeff Lockyer has led the church he grew up in for nearly a quarter century. In that time Southridge Community Church has grown to become an innovative multi-site church across the Niagara Region of Ontario, Canada where each location is defined by its own missional “Anchor Cause,” serving the homeless, migrant farm workers, and low-income families. He is the Chair of the Board of the Global Leadership Network Canada and has founded a ministry called “Leaders’ Village” that supports ministry and local church leaders across Canada and around the world. A former national team long-distance runner while at the University of Toronto, Jeff and his wife Becky live in St. Catharines with their three children, Owen, Simon, and Addilyn. Jeff also considers himself the Stanley Cup championship parade coordinator for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

As the collection picks up steam, there are some well written stories, but overall too few for me to recommend this book. While I liked the mix of Spanish and English (without the awkward translation--figure it out reader!); the strong narrative voice throughout; and the move towards more introspect......more

This book was a collection of short stories about high school students, mostly Mexican-American or Mexican high school students living in America. Genre/Category: Rene Saldana Jr./Short stories This book is a collection of short stories dealing with every-day teens issues. None of the stories connect, but I was surprised by the similar theme of forgiveness and hope found in a lot of the stories. Saldana brings up issues of betrayal, trust, find......more

I just put down the book for the second time in my life and I'm happy to say that my thoughts on it have changed for the better. Being YA lit, something I hardly touch, this book shows that there are two versions of the Valley: The one in which we live in and the one we remember living in. René Sald......more

I enjoyed this book. I loved the thrown in tidbits Spanish, it made the story more real if that makes sense. Real in the essence that these stories were being told by los pueblos de América. The stories were interesting as well. They highlighted people who were trying to decide who they are and not......more
